Component Video Extenders
Component extenders allow component video signals to travel very long distances. Although component video is being phased out by digital interfaces such as DVI or HDMI, they are still being applied in consumer level and commercial applications. These extenders are commonly used in projector or home theater environments, nightclubs, airports, banks, schools, boardrooms and other commercial applications.
You may be wondering what the difference is between Component versus Composite and S-Video. While all three are analog interfaces, Component signals are nearly native format utilizing three pairs of wires while composite uses one pair and S-Video used two pairs. Also, these three interfaces differ in their level of encoding. With more encoding comes degradation; composite and S-Video have the most amount of encoding compared to Component which has the least amount of encoding.
A typical Component cable may run close to a 100ft until there is signal loss. Longer cable runs will require the use of an extender. Common Component extenders use a category cable to connect the transmitter and receiver for perfect video extension of up to 1000 feet. For extra long distances, fiber optic transmitters and receivers can extend a Component signal up to 30 km or 18.75 miles over fiber optic cabling. Applications including airports, university campuses, large facilities, across buildings and stadiums are best suited for fiber optic extenders.
We stock the most reliable and cost effective Component extenders from industry leaders including Atlona, Kramer, Muxlab, Gefen, TVOne, Hall Research, Shinybow and many more. Our knowledgeable representatives are standing by to take your call for any questions or concerns regarding these extenders.
