DisplayPort transmits a digital signal and is typically used for a video signal to display on a PC monitor, TVs, cameras and much more. In addition, DisplayPort is also able to send audio, USB, and other forms of data. DisplayPort was developed as a better altenative for VGA and DVI because it supports higher resolutions while still having the ability to be backwards compatible with VGA and DVI through the use of adapters. The purpose of a DisplayPort extender is to extend a Displayport signal longer distances than a normal cable can run before losing signal. A certified DisplayPort cable can run up to 15 meters or 50 feet before a booster is needed. An extender is needed when going beyond 200 feet. For distances over 200 feet, a DisplayPort twisted pair extender is recommended. Twisted pair extenders use shielded category cables to deliver optimal performance and quality up to 330 feet.
