Description
The PT-400 is an in-line push-to-talk switch kit designed to be inserted into the cordage of a headset or microphone to provide manual transmit control. It supports configurations commonly used for push-to-talk, push-to-cough and relay keying in Ham, CB and other communications systems. The unit is supplied as a kit that can include one or two SPDT Type Form C micro switches rated for high current.
Key features include SPDT Type Form C micro switches rated at 10 amps 125/250 VDC and a pushbutton that operates as momentary or locked on. The housing is molded from high impact plastic and the micro switches are positively mounted over spring pins for reliable contact. Two vinyl strain reliefs and two metal retainers secure cordage up to 0.180″ (4.6 mm) in diameter.
Technical construction details include solder terminal connections on the micro switches and a rugged belt clip permanently attached to one housing half. The clip rotates 360 degrees so the switch can be located and oriented for operator convenience. The assembly weighs approximately 2.5 oz (72 grams) and is finished in black.
Connectivity is simple and direct – the PT-400 is wired inline into the conductors of a headphone or microphone cable and can be configured to switch transmit audio or key relays. It is compatible with common two-wire and multi-conductor cordage used in communications gear and supports electrical switching of external equipment at the rated voltage and current. No additional power supply is required for the switching functions.
Typical applications include amateur radio stations, mobile CB installations, intercom and dispatch systems where a compact inline PTT or momentary/lockable switch is required. The durable housing and strain reliefs help maintain cable integrity in field and studio environments. The lockable pushbutton is useful for hands-free transmit when extended transmit periods are needed.
