The CS1316 is a 16-port VGA KVM switcher that provides a single keyboard, video and mouse console to control multiple computers. It supports both PS/2 and USB interfaces for consoles and target systems and can cascade up to two levels to manage up to 256 computers from one console. The design targets mixed-interface environments where centralized control and fast operator access are required.

Key features include dual-interface keyboard and mouse emulation for PS/2 and USB systems, ATEN Video DynaSync – which eliminates boot-up display problems and optimizes resolution when switching – and multiple port selection methods including front-panel pushbuttons, hotkeys and a multilingual on-screen display. The unit supports two-level password security that allows an administrator plus up to four users, and it offers hot-pluggable operation so systems can be added or removed without powering down. Additional conveniences include an Auto Scan monitoring mode and buzzer on/off control via hotkey or OSD.

On the performance side the CS1316 supports VGA video up to 2048 x 1536 with DDC2B for accurate EDID handling and optimal resolution retention. Scan interval is adjustable from 1 to 255 seconds to suit monitoring needs, and the switch provides solid USB/PS2 keyboard and mouse emulation so attached computers boot reliably even when not in focus. Power consumption is DC 5.3 V at 6.6 W and the unit operates across a broad environmental range for rack or desktop installations.

Connectivity includes one SPHD-18 console connector, 16 SPHD-15 KVM ports, an RJ-11 firmware upgrade port and a DC power jack. The CS1316 is multiplatform compatible and interoperates with Windows 2000/XP/Vista, Linux, Mac and Sun systems. No additional software is required to operate the switch, enabling straightforward deployment in mixed OS environments.

Typical use cases include server rooms and control racks where a single operator needs to access many machines, broadcast or post-production facilities requiring centralized control of multiple edit or render nodes, and lab or testing environments where frequent switching and reliable video timing are critical. The cascade capability allows scaling from a single 16-port unit up to a 256-node system without altering operator workflow. This makes it practical for expanding installations where centralized console access must be preserved.
